Project:

Haptics of Cooking

Product Type:

Kitchen Utensils

Description:

Haptics is the science and technology of transmitting and understanding information through touch. These kitchen tools are designed for the visually impaired and guide the process of cooking through the experience of touch. It is an inventive approach to improve the independence of people in the visually impaired community through a sensory perspective based on touch as opposed to sight.

Themes:

This project embraces the concept of diversity by the simple fact that it is about a product for the segment of our population whose vision is impaired. At the same time, leveraging the sense of touch (haptics) to overcome the limitations of vision, is another way the project incorporates ‘diversity’ into the design solution - since most design is driven by visual cues, as opposed to touch.
